Overview
Dr. Parikh received his medical degree from Seth G.S. Medical College and KEM Hospital in Mumbai, India and subsequently completed his Nephrology fellowship and a PhD in Clinical Investigation at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Dr. Parikh’s research focuses on the translation and validation of novel biomarkers for the diagnosis and prognosis of acute kidney injury. Progress in kidney diseases has been hamstrung by significant heterogeneity within the current disease definitions, which are largely based on serum creatinine. Dr. Parikh’s research has addressed this critical challenge by developing biomarkers of renal tubular injury, repair, and inflammation to dissect this heterogeneity. He has assembled multicenter longitudinal prospective cohorts for translational research studies across several clinical settings of acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease for the efficient translation of novel biomarkers. His research is dedicated to the process of applying discoveries generated in the laboratory and in preclinical experiments, the development of clinical studies, and the design of clinical trials. Dr. Parikh’s studies have refined the clinical definition in perioperative acute kidney injury and hepatorenal syndrome, developed strategies to reduce kidney discard in deceased donor transplantation, and advanced regulatory approvals of kidney injury biomarkers. He has also developed biomarkers to identify rapid progressors of early diabetic kidney disease before derangements in serum creatinine. Dr. Parikh’s research goal is to translate our understanding of pathophysiological mechanisms into clinical practice and improve the outcomes in patients with kidney disease. Dr. Parikh has also been the recipient of numerous honors, including the 2017 Young Investigator Award from the American Society of Nephrology.

Clinical Research
Clinical research consists of overseeing clinical studies of patients undergoing new treatments and therapies, and publishing articles in peer reviewed medical journals. Providers who actively participate in clinical research are generally at the forefront of the fields and aware of the most up-to-date advances in treatments for their patients.
The Johns Hopkins Hospital
Dr. Crews is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She holds faculty appointments with the School of Nursing, the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research, the Center on Aging and Health, and the Center for Health Equity, where she is Deputy Director. Her research program aims to advance equity in kidney disease and hypertension outcomes by focusing on social drivers of health inequities. An elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, Dr. Crews has received numerous awards for her research contributions, including the 2018 Johns Hopkins University President’s Frontier Award--a $250,000 award granted to a single faculty scholar on the cusp of transforming their field. She is a former National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Emerging Leader Scholar and was the inaugural Gilbert S. Omenn Anniversary Fellow of the NAM. In 2019, Dr. Crews received the W. Lester Henry Award for Diversity and Access to Care from the American College of Physicians and the Distinguished Leader Award from the American Society of Nephrology. Dr. Crews is the founding director of the Doctoral Diversity Program, a 2-year, research-intensive post-baccalaureate program of the Johns Hopkins Initiative for Careers in Science and Medicine. Dr. Crews received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and her medical degree from Saint Louis University. A graduate of the Osler Medical Training Program, she completed nephrology fellowship and a master’s in clinical epidemiology degree at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Crews is rated as a Distinguished provider by MediFind in the treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease. Her top areas of expertise are Chronic Kidney Disease, End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), Arteriovenous Malformation, Kidney Transplant, and Nephrectomy.
Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center
Dr. Bernard Jaar is an associate professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He holds a joint appointment in epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His areas of clinical expertise include chronic kidney disease and all dialysis modalities. Dr. Jaar earned his M.D. from Faculte de Medecine et de Pharmacie of the State University of Haiti. He completed nephrology training at Hopitaux de Paris (Hopital Tenon, Hopital Saint Antoine, Hopital Saint Louis) University of Paris V, France. He subsequently completed an internal medicine residency at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia and a nephrology fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, in addition to a post-doctoral fellowship in Epidemiology and a Master in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His research interests include epidemiology of chronic kidney disease and end-stage kidney disease, particularly survival in dialysis patients, peripheral arterial disease and environmental risk factors for kidney disease. Dr. Jaar was recognized with the C. Lockard Conley Award 2021 by the American College of Physician Maryland Chapter for contributions to resident education / research and the National Kidney Foundation Garabed Eknoyan Award 2022 for promoting the mission of NKF in making the lives of people with kidney disease better. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Society of Nephrology, American Society of Nephrology, National Kidney Foundation, American College of Physicians and the International Society of Peritoneal dialysis. Dr. Jaar is rated as a Distinguished provider by MediFind in the treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease. His top areas of expertise are Chronic Kidney Disease, End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), Calcinosis, Low Potassium Level, and Kidney Transplant.
