Philosophy of care | As your doctor, my goal is to help you get your life back! Pain medicine is always focused on reducing your level of pain to restore your functionality. I believe in the philosophy that chronic pain may stem from physical, emotional and/or spiritual components. I work to address each of these components to improve your quality of life. Using minimally invasive spinal procedures and other leading-edge techniques, I promise to provide you with the highest standard of care. | Why I entered medicine | Ever since I was young, I always sympathized with the needs of others and sought to ease their discomfort, whether it was physical or emotional. I always knew that I would end up in a field that allowed me to encompass both aspects of care. | Community involvement | I find it rewarding to volunteer my medical services in my local community as well as around the world by attending medical brigades and missions. We have high-quality medical care in this country, and I believe it is important to share this privilege with those who are less fortunate. | Personal interests | I enjoy traveling, playing recreational sports (basketball, tennis, golf and soccer), indulging in the intricacies of architecture and aviation, and above all, spending time with my loved ones. | Image | Lehigh Valley Hospital is ranked 25th in the country for orthopedic care on the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list. Philosophy of care | I try to approach each patient interaction with an open mind and open ears. I listen to what patients are saying – and what they’re not saying – to get the complete story. My goal is to partner with patients and empower them to get involved in their care. | Why I entered medicine | Early on in school, I noticed I most enjoyed classes about health and the human body. As my medical training progressed, I discovered there’s so much more to being a physician than prescribing and diagnosing. It involves a unique mix of skills, including detective work and the ability to listen to and support patients. Practicing medicine is a very fulfilling career, ever-changing and always keeping me on my toes. I’m grateful for the opportunity to connect deeply with patients and help them live healthier lives. | Community involvement | I enjoy staying involved with medical education, including working with medical students and internal medicine residents. I also stay active as a volunteer at my children's school when time allows. | Personal interests | I have two awesome children who continue to keep me busy. I love time with my family and am naturally in my happy place at home, reading a book or cooking with my husband. Philosophy of care | I believe in focusing on prevention including health screenings, nutrition, and physical activity. My hope for my patients is that they feel as well as possible so that they can do the things that are most important to them. I enjoy seeing patients of all ages (from babies to seniors) and do several office-based procedures including skin biopsies, joint injections and Pap smears. I take care of a diverse population and believe that all patients deserve access to high quality healthcare, irrespective of their gender, race, ethnicity, religion, immigration status, gender identity or sexual orientation. | Why I entered medicine | I grew up with an older brother who was diagnosed with heart disease when he was 4, and I was inspired at an early age by his doctors’ care and compassion. I went into medicine to provide this same level of patient-centered care to others and strive to treat all of my patients as if they were family. Outside of my clinical practice, I am faculty in the Department of Family Medicine at LVHN and do research and teach medical students and residents. I am a better physician for all that I continue to learn through these activities and find great joy in both teaching the next generation of physicians and in conducting research aimed at identifying ways to improve health care. | Community involvement | I first lived in the Lehigh Valley during my college years at Lehigh University and was very excited to return to this vibrant community after completing medical school and residency. I’m an active member in the Central Moravian Church in Bethlehem and have served as a Sunday School teacher for the middle school class for the last few years. I also serve on the Health Advisory Committee at Bradbury Sullivan LGBT Community Center. | Personal interests | I enjoy running and can often be found outside in the early hours of the day, wearing a head lamp and covered in reflectors. I figure you can never be too safe! I’m an avid home cook and own approximately 50 cookbooks. I grew up in a family of farmers, and we still all come together a few times a year to prepare and preserve marinara sauce and pickles. Outside of those activities, I enjoy spending time at home with my husband and our pet turtle Frankie. Dr. Careyva is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Chronic Pain. Philosophy of care | I love the one-to-one connection with the patient. It’s everything in family medicine, as far as I’m concerned. It goes with being an osteopathic doctor, the approach of the human body healing itself and healing the whole body. I'm hard-working, easy to communicate with, and here to help -- whether it be about medicine, the Phillies lineup or just day-to-day life. | Why I entered medicine | I wanted to be a doctor ever since I was young. I even used to dress up as a doctor on Halloween. I developed my interest from my pediatrician. There was a real comfort level in his office. I was pretty much interested in everything medical ever since. I can still remember looking at dissections of a frog in my encyclopedia over and over again. | Community involvement | I participated in the Valley Preferred Tour de Hershey, a bike ride to raise money for childhood cancer. I also contribute to the local dog park in Allentown. | Personal interests | In my spare time, I enjoy hanging out with my Rhodesian Ridgeback, Scarlett; enjoying the company of my wife, family and friends; making wine; playing sports; reading books; hiking and eating! Helping patients improve their quality of life gives my work/career meaning. I cannot see myself doing anything else. | Community involvement | I support Global Hope International, which provides medical missions and other humanitarian aid. | Personal interests | I like weight training, jogging, snowboarding, golf, basketball, traveling and playing board and card games. | Image | Lehigh Valley Hospital is ranked 25th in the country for orthopedic care on the 2025-2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals list. What is the definition of Chronic Pain?

Chronic pain is defined as pain that persists for more than three months, in contrast to acute pain which is limited. Chronic pain may be the result of injury, infection, or chronic disease and can manifest as low back pain, migraines, arthritis, neuralgias or neurological diseases affecting various nerves, cancer, and even psychogenic pain where no physical cause can be found. Chronic pain more commonly affects older adults and can be unrelenting (without relief) or intermittent (continuing to come and go).

When should I see a Chronic Pain doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Chronic Pain doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Chronic Pain doctors near Bethlehem, PA?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Chronic Pain doctors near Bethlehem, PA?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Chronic Pain doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Chronic Pain doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Chronic Pain doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Chronic Pain doctor near Bethlehem, PA?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Chronic Pain doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Chronic Pain doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Chronic Pain doctors near Bethlehem, PA?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Chronic Pain doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Chronic Pain doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Chronic Pain doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
