Overview

L. Christopher Grandizio, DO, is an orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in hand, wrist, shoulder and elbow surgery. Dr. Grandizio is a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and serves as the of the Chief of Shoulder & Elbow Division for the Geisinger Musculoskeletal Institute. Dr. Grandizio is an expert in the treatment of peripheral nerve compression (including carpal tunnel syndrome and cubital tunnel syndrome), upper-extremity trauma and fractures, sports injuries, and shoulder and elbow replacements. In addition, he specializes in complex reconstructive procedures in the upper-limb, including tendon transfers for shoulder, elbow and hand conditions.|After completing his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Geisinger, he went to on to complete a one-year fellowship in upper-extremity surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Upon returning to Geisinger, he founded the Geisinger Upper-Extremity Research Fellowship, where he has mentored numerous international and US fellows. In 2021, he was selected to participate in the Young Leaders Program for the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH).|Dr. Grandizio maintains a strong interest in both research and education. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed research articles. As an expert in the management of complex elbow instability, Dr. Grandizio has been invited to give numerous national and international presentations on topics ranging from upper-extremity trauma to technology in healthcare. He serves as a peer-reviewer for multiple orthopaedic journals and is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Hand Surgery. As part of his commitment to education, he is heavily engaged in professional societies and is involved in multiple committees and leadership positions within the ASSH. In addition, Dr. Grandizio is one of the few upper-extremity surgeons who is a member of both the ASSH and ASES.|A former member of Bucknell University’s NCAA Division I baseball team, Dr. Grandizio has a long history in athletics and enjoys helping his patients return to doing what they love. He specializes in elbow ulnar collateral ligament repair / reconstruction (Tommy John Surgery) and has a passion for working with throwing athletes.|In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, coaching baseball and reading.
