The balance of his time is spent on the general infectious diseases inpatient service at MUSC as well as one half-day of clinic weekly. He also serves as assistant hospital epidemiologist at MUSC. Following graduation from Davidson College and Duke University School of Medicine, Dr. Gnann completed his internal medicine residency and infectious diseases fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. At UAB, Dr. Gnann began to develop his career-long interest in clinical virology and antiviral chemotherapy.
