He is dual board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin in Electrical Engineering, during which time he worked for the United States Navy as a civilian doing sonar research. He then completed an Internship in Neurosurgery, a Residency in Anesthesiology and a Fellowship in Pain Medicine at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. She first tried typical conservative treatments, including physical therapy, chiropractic care, and oral medications. Ultimately, she underwent several surgeries and unfortunately developed complex regional pain syndrome that continues to affect her daily quality of life decades later.“I was able to witness first hand how untreated pain syndromes can influence quality of life, and this helped to inspire me to become an interventional pain physician.”When not working on the forefront of treating chronic pain, Dr. Smith resides in nearby New Braunfels with his wife, Leslie, and their son. He enjoys homebrewing his own beer, is an avid board game player, and loves to hike and kayak at the beautiful Canyon Lake.
