After taking a transitional intern year at the Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, Virginia, he returned to Salt Lake City to complete his Radiation Oncology Residency at the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Hospital.EXPERIENCE Dr. Francis is a radiation oncologist at Comprehensive Cancer Centers with extensive experience using external beam treatment modalities as well as brachytherapy. He also has expertise in advanced CT simulation, treatment planning and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT).Prior to joining Comprehensive Cancer Centers, Dr. Francis was enrolled in the Radiation Oncology Residency Program at the University of Utah Huntsman Cancer Hospital. He served as chief resident there in 2017. His research and findings have appeared in several industry publications including Journal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics and Journal of Clinical Oncology. He also won the Radiological Society of North America Roentgen Research Award for his work in 2018.PERSONAL When he's not treating patients, Dr. Francis enjoys spending time with his wife, three young sons and newborn daughter. He also serves in his church and enjoys board games, gardening, hiking and trail running.I truly enjoy getting to know each of my patients as I seek to understand their individual situations, goals and desires. I believe in personalizing care for each patient. My own father's battle with cancer inspired me to become a radiation oncologist and helps me relate better to what my patients and their families are going through. I believe in treating each of my patients with the same compassion, care and expertise that I would want for myself or any member of my own family. EDUCATION Dr. Schwartz attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for his undergraduate studies. In May 1996, he graduated with a major in cell and molecular biology. Dr. Schwartz received his medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine, Reno in 2001, where he received the Excellence in Research award from the Western Student Medical Research Forum. He served as President of the American College of Physicians, UNSOM medical student section from 1998-1999. He completed his internship in 2002 at Yale-New Haven Hospital. His residency was completed in radiation oncology in 2006 at McGill University Health Center, where he was Chief Resident.AREAS OF SPECIAL INTEREST Specializes in using Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and High Dose Rate Brachytherapy for the treatment of various cancer types including prostate, breast, lung, gastrointestinal, head and neck and gynecologic cancers.EXPERIENCE Dr. Schwartz joined Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada as a radiation oncologist in July 2006 and currently serves as a member of the Radiation Executive Committee of The US Oncology Network and the Clinical Pathways Committee. Dr. Schwartz serves as the Chairman of the Marketing Committee of Comprehensive Cancer Centers of Nevada, and is the Chairman of the Board of Managers of the Las Vegas Cyberknife.  Dr. Schwartz also participates in clinical research and has served as principal investigator on various groundbreaking research studies at the practice. In addition, he has authored/co-authored several scientific papers and has been a speaker at conferences in the field of radiation therapy.
