Overview

I became a medical provider because I wanted a career that focused on improving people's lives. I tremendously enjoy playing sports and more specifically surfing. I chose orthopaedic surgery because I wanted to help restore patients' function enabling them to get back to the activities that they enjoy.Dr. Berger specializes in treating sports injuries and degenerative conditions of the knee, hip, and shoulder. The most common surgeries he performs are arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder, including ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) reconstruction and rotator cuff repair, and joint replacement surgery of the knee, hip, and shoulder. He also commonly treats traumatic tendon injuries and fractures.  Dr. Berger attended the University of Pennsylvania for his undergraduate education. He received his medical degree from the University of California – Davis where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) honor society. He did his orthopedic surgery residency at UCLA (University of California – Los Angeles) where he was elected as one of the Chief Residents in his graduating class. He did a sports medicine fellowship with SOAR, during which time he worked as an assistant team physician for the San Francisco Giants.  He has presented locally and nationally on the topics of shoulder instability and the effects of prior surgery on Division I NCAA athlete's careers, future injuries and functional testing.I pride myself on being an approachable and caring physician who employs a conservative approach to treating patients, starting with the least invasive treatments and employing surgical management when it will clearly help my patients.
