Philosophy of care | Burn injuries can be devastating. To provide excellent burn care, I address the patient's surgical, medical, physical and emotional needs. My focus is on form and function. It's my responsibility to help a patient heal so they can function to the best of their ability and have the best possible cosmetic outcome. | Why I entered medicine | Many members of my family were physicians. I saw the difference they made in people's lives. My dad was an ophthalmologist. He cared for people in a clinic at no charge. People who had cataracts arrived not being able to see and left with sight. That was incredible to me, and it taught me how great and rewarding the medical profession can be. | Community involvement | I provide education to ER physicians, firefighters and EMS personnel about how to treat burn. I tell them what to expect and what they should do should a burn injury occur in the field. I also teach first responders how to prevent burn injuries so they never need to come to our Regional Burn Center. | Personal interests | I do woodworking because I enjoy the challenge of making something out of nothing. I make furniture, cabinets and knickknacks. Closing the door of my wood shop and shutting out the world is therapeutic to me. I also enjoy cooking, painting and sewing.
