Dr. William O. Griffiths

I see a wide variety of internal medicine patients with a range of health problems, from common conditions such as hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes, and thyroid problems, to complicated health issues. I enjoy the unique opportunity in primary care to build relationships with my patients over many years. My interest in medicine started while in elementary school. My inspiration was my mother, a physician herself. I was able to witness first-hand both the many lives she touched and the personal satisfaction she gained from being a physician. I joined Duke Primary Care in 2010, and have enjoyed my practice immensely. Outside my medical practice, I enjoy spending time with my husband and two children. I also enjoy running, biking, hiking, yoga and I love to read books, fiction mostly. I am passionate about cooking, and have experimented with a variety of cuisines. I am originally from Kingston, Jamaica and moved to New York where I enrolled in college at SUNY Geneseo. Later, I moved to Connecticut where I attended medical school and completed my residency at the University of Connecticut's School of Medicine. I enjoy primary care because it allows me to develop meaningful, long term relationships with my patients. I believe high quality care comes from truly understanding each patient and their unique needs. Outside of work, I love cooking, reading, and eating at every possible restaurant throughout the Triangle. I am originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I joined the US Army at the urging of a fellow classmate in medical school. Through the Army's Health Professions Scholarship Program, I completed medical school in New England.  I did my residency at a large Army base located in the Puget Sound area of the State of Washington, Fort Lewis.  I served 13 years in the Army and resigned my commission as a LTC in pursuit of working part time to spend more time with my family. I worked as a hospitalist at Duke for six years before returning to my true passion in 2016, primary care. I really enjoy making long lasting relationships with patients. I strive to give patients my best advice and through shared decision-making help them navigate their health care journey while keeping their life journey at the forefront of our minds.
