I am a general gastroenterologist with a focus in motility disorders. I enjoy performing gastrointestinal procedures, such as upper endoscopy and colonoscopy, and getting to know my patients. Once I have gotten to know my patients' stories, I strive to help create a longitudinal plan to understand the gastrointestinal issues that afflict them better. I practice evidence-based medicine and believe in making shared decisions with my patients. When I am not working, I enjoy traveling, going on adventures, spending time with my family, and watching movies. I am a general gastroenterologist who serves as medical director of Duke gastroenterology at Brier Creek. I see many patients with celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease, reflux disease and diarrheal disease. Even though I work mostly in the outpatient setting, I do many procedures, including upper endoscopies and colonoscopies. There’s nothing I find more rewarding than telling a patient they won’t get cancer, because we’ve found and removed a troubling polyp. I encourage dialogue so patients feel involved in the decisions about their own care. I believe that a lot of medicine is an art, not a science. There’s often no perfectly “right” answer. Involving patients empowers them to take care of their own bodies and make decisions that are right for them. I started as a nutritionist, but wanted to focus on taking care of the entire body, so I switched to medicine. I also have an interest in women’s health. Dr. Teitelman is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Gardner Syndrome. Her top areas of expertise are Colitis, Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn's Disease, Endoscopy, and Colonoscopy.

I am a gastroenterologist and the medical director of the gastrointestinal (GI) program at Duke Raleigh Hospital. I enjoy being at Duke, because our team is one of the most experienced in the Southeastern United States. Most of the patients I see have diseases of the biliary or pancreatic systems including blockages. Some of these can be malignant. When I first meet a patient, I like to know their expectations for treatment. I also like to meet the patient’s loved ones and answer any questions they may have at the very first visit. After we talk, I review the patient’s x-rays and records. The next step is to discuss the results with my colleagues as a team, so we can come up with a unique treatment plan that is personalized for each patient. The most rewarding part of my job is the interaction with patients. If I can provide immediate help, I’m even happier. Dr. Obando is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Gardner Syndrome. His top areas of expertise are Pancreatic Cancer, Neuroendocrine Tumor, Familial Pancreatic Cancer, Endoscopy, and Pancreatectomy.

My practice centers on the care of patients with digestive diseases. My particular area of interest and expertise is inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. I find my work with patients very rewarding since we now have many more treatment options for patients with IBD and there are more innovations on the horizon. For me, the most important aspect of being a physician is to develop an honest, trust-based relationship with patients which allows us to work together. When I'm not seeing patients, I enjoy travel, movies, museums, reading and growing tropical plants. Dr. Chachu is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Gardner Syndrome. Her top areas of expertise are Crohn's Disease, Ulcerative Colitis, Angiodysplasia of the Colon, Endoscopy, and Gastrectomy.

I became a doctor because of my lifelong desire to help people. In fact, when asked as a young child to draw a picture of what I wanted to be when I grew up, I drew a picture of myself with a stethoscope. Gastroenterology appealed to me because it involves complaints that almost everyone experiences at some point, and helping people feel better is very gratifying. In my practice, I see adults with common digestive tract issues, including heartburn, abdominal pain and changes in bowel habits, as well as a focus in seeing patients with inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease). I believe spending the time to get a detailed history from each patient is valuable, not only for diagnosing and successfully treating or managing these conditions but also for establishing an open, comfortable physician-patient relationship. Dr. Crocker is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Gardner Syndrome. His top areas of expertise are Colorectal Cancer, Familial Colorectal Cancer, Viral Gastroenteritis, Endoscopy, and Gastrectomy.

My mother was a dedicated nurse, and I learned early on what a privilege it is to be involved in the care of others. As a physician, I strive to take care of my patients as if they were a close family member. I have spent most of my career teaching other physicians how to practice gastroenterology, and I always impart to them the importance of being thorough and thoughtful in their evaluations. I see adult patients with a variety of gastroenterology conditions, such as heartburn, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. I have a special interest in performing colon cancer screening and performing diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower endoscopy. Outside of my work, I love to spend time with my family and play board games, bike, and engage in the occasional indoor snowball fight. As a child, I loved playing doctor with my Barbie dolls. That, combined with my passion for math and science, led me to medical school, and I have never looked back on that decision. It is such a privilege to work toward improving the lives of others. The best part of being a gastroenterologist is the opportunity to help patients with the longest organ system in their body—the digestive tract. Every patient is unique, and it’s important to me to understand each person’s story. I love all aspects of general gastroenterology and have special interests in women's health and colorectal cancer screening, with a growing focus on esophageal disorders. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking, and reading non-fiction. Dr. Zhang is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Gardner Syndrome. I strongly believe that the doctor-patient relationship is key in the practice of medicine and the most essential component for the delivery of high quality health care in the diagnosis and management of disease. As such, as a gastroenterologist and hepatologist, my favorite part of the day starts with getting to know the patient. I have a passion for taking care of patients with liver disease with a particular interest in liver cancer and liver transplantation. In addition to my clinical interests, I also have an interest in improving how health care is delivered to patients using innovative and cutting edge technologies. Dr. Sanders is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Gardner Syndrome. What is the definition of Gardner Syndrome?

Gardner syndrome is a form of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) that is characterized by multiple colorectal polyps and various types of tumors, both benign (noncancerous) and malignant (cancerous). They are also at an increased risk of developing other FAP-related cancers, such as those of the small bowel, stomach, pancreas, thyroid, central nervous system, liver, bile ducts, and/or adrenal gland. Other signs and symptoms of Gardner syndrome include dental abnormalities; osteomas (benign bone growths); various skin abnormalities such as epidermoid cysts, fibromas (a benign tumor of the connective tissue), and lipomas; and desmoid tumors. It is caused by changes in the APC gene and inherited in an autosomal dominant manner. These may include high risk screening, prophylactic surgeries and/or certain types of medications.

When should I see a Gardner Syndrome doctor near Cary, NC?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Gardner Syndrome doctor near Cary, NC?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Gardner Syndrome doctors near Cary, NC?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Gardner Syndrome doctors near Cary, NC?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Gardner Syndrome doctor near Cary, NC?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Gardner Syndrome doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Gardner Syndrome doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Gardner Syndrome doctor near Cary, NC?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Gardner Syndrome doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Gardner Syndrome doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Gardner Syndrome doctors near Cary, NC?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Gardner Syndrome doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Gardner Syndrome doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Gardner Syndrome doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
