Dr. Judith N. Feick is a board-certified, primary care pediatrician with more than 25 years of experience in private practice. She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP) and member, American Medical Association, Wilmington New Castle Pediatric Association and the Medical Society of Delaware. I’ve always wanted to be an advocate for people in need, especially children. One of the greatest joys of my life is seeing a child get better — and seeing him or her grow up over the years. In fact, some of my earliest patients have gone on to graduate from college, get jobs, have families of their own, and their children are now my patients. I could not imagine a day without kids in it. I like to stay up to date with the latest developments in medicine, from current events that affect us all to the latest breakthroughs in research and pediatric treatments. I do a lot of reading (for fun!) on medicine and child and adolescent development. I read textbooks, as well as pharmaceutical and medical journals. I love the science of medicine and I love the art of it too. I do it so I can be at my best as a doctor, and so I can pass on any useful info to patients and families about how to stay in good health and maintain proper fitness and nutrition. Nothing is more delightful to me than seeing kids get better and stay that way. In my work, I believe this involves being willing to go beyond what is required or expected, and really connecting to my patients on a personal level. They’re a part of my life and I hope they feel I'm a part of theirs as well.Outside of my work, I volunteer with church organizations, help raise money for organizations and am active in a women’s group. I've worked with Family Promise, a group that helps the homeless. I've volunteered with the Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts, and I have taught 4th and 5th grade classes on health and medicine. I have worked at career fairs at St. Mark’s High School. I have spoke to a group of University of Delaware students about medical careers. I'm also interested in mission work. Dr. Feick is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+). She is also highly rated in 1 other condition, according to our data. Her clinical expertise encompasses Obesity in Children, Developmental Dysphasia Familial, Delayed Growth, and Croup. Dr. Karen M. Kelly is a board-certified, primary care pediatrician with more than 20 years of experience in private practice. She is a fellow, American Academy of Pediatrics, and board member of Heal Autism Now Delaware (HAND). I was always interested in medicine, even as a young girl. Then, when I was in high school and college, I remember being interested in the way kids’ minds worked, and wanted to help them stay in good health. This helped decide my path through medical school and, 20-some years later, to where I am today. Children are also so fun — it really makes for a happy career. I’m really passionate about the interactions I have with the kids — and their families. I do all I can to help each family raise a healthy, happy child. I urge them as strongly as I can on things they should be doing to ensure good health, including things like proper exercise and nutrition. At the same time, I like to have as pleasant an interaction with each child and family as I can — it makes things better for us all. I try to help each child and family see the importance of good health and good decisions when it comes to daily lifestyle choices like food and exercise. I also try to treat each child in the way that works best for them — what’s most appropriate for their age and what works best for their individual personality. I try and get each kid involved in their own care, so I don’t just talk to the family. That usually works well — unless, of course, a child is so young that he or she can’t talk yet. Dr. Kelly is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+). She is also highly rated in 1 other condition, according to our data. Her clinical expertise encompasses Obesity in Children, Croup, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria (CSU). Dr. Kelly is board certified in American Board Of Pediatrics.

I’ve always enjoyed puzzles and the satisfaction once a puzzle is completed. That is one reason that attracted me to the field of pediatric neurology, specifically epilepsy. It’s heart-warming when the puzzle pieces fit together and I’m able to help my patients understand their neurological disorder so we can work as a team to find the best treatment plan. I love working with children because they are honest and resilient. When they smile and laugh, the world just lights up. I chose my field of pediatric neurology because of my fascination with the brain, in particular the plasticity of a young brain where timely treatment can have an impact on the child’s cognitive future. I’m passionate about helping my patients and their families attain the best quality of life, and to achieve this requires a trusting partnership and teamwork between my team, my patients and their families.  I have special interest in the treatment of intractable epilepsy, and am very familiar with the use of dietary therapies, neurostimulation and epilepsy surgery in the treatment of epilepsy. Few people know a child better than the child’s caretaker. So I always try to listen and work together as a team with my patients and their caretakers. I strive to stay up-to-date with the latest innovations and treatment options to provide my patients the best care possible so they can live life to its fullest. I treat children because they are a lot of fun and are generally happy. That tends to make my workplace happy too. Even when they are recovering from an illness or an injury, they are very resilient and often improve faster than adults do, so that's exciting to be part of. Also, as a pediatric emergency medicine physician, it’s extremely challenging and rewarding to figure out what's wrong with sick kids, and to be able to help them. It’s especially fulfilling, considering the wide variety of illnesses they come in with and all the different stages of those illnesses that they go through. I see a lot of critically ill children in the emergency department. I’m passionate about helping them, even if it’s only to make a small difference at first, with a full recovery being the ultimate goal. In addition, I enjoy teaching patients and their families about their illnesses or injuries. I also love working in a teaching hospital, which gives me the opportunity to help pass on my knowledge to other health professionals in the emergency department as well — from residents and fellows to physician assistants, imaging specialists and nurses. Each interaction provides a chance to make a lasting impression about a specific disease or injury and how to treat it. Dr. Devens is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+). She is also highly rated in 2 other conditions, according to our data. Her clinical expertise encompasses Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+), Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) Infection, Croup, and Viral Gastroenteritis. Dr. Devens is board certified in American Board Of Pediatrics.

What is the definition of Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+)?

Genetic epilepsy with febrile seizures plus (GEFS+) is a spectrum of seizure disorders of varying severity. GEFS+ is usually diagnosed in families whose members have a combination of febrile seizures, which are triggered by a high fever, and recurrent seizures (epilepsy) of other types, including seizures that are not related to fevers (afebrile seizures). The additional seizure types usually involve both sides of the brain (generalized seizures); however, seizures that involve only one side of the brain (partial seizures) occur in some affected individuals. The most common types of seizure in people with GEFS+ include myoclonic seizures, which cause involuntary muscle twitches; atonic seizures, which involve sudden episodes of weak muscle tone; and absence seizures, which cause loss of consciousness for short periods that appear as staring spells.

When should I see a Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctor near Newark, DE?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

    • Your primary care provider recommends it.
    • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
    • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
    • You need specialized testing or procedures.
    • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctor near Newark, DE?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctors near Newark, DE?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctors near Newark, DE?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctor near Newark, DE?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctor near Newark, DE?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

    • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
    • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
    • Family history of disease
    • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
    • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
    • List of questions and concerns
    • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctor?

    Here are some sample questions:

    • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
    • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
    • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
    • Are there other specialists I need to see?
    • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctors near Newark, DE?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Genetic Epilepsy with Febrile Seizures Plus (GEFS+) doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
