As an orthopedic oncologist, I treat cancers of the bone and muscle. My background is very different from most doctors. I started as a veterinarian and became interested in cancer because so many dogs have cancer, and I came to medical school to learn how to treat and beat some of these types of cancer. I’m still a veterinarian, and that’s a big part of what we do here. Many cancers of the bone and muscles, called sarcomas, are rare in people, but common in dogs. So continuing to treat dogs with this type of cancer lets us and our group gain a deeper understanding of how these cancers work. With my patients, I try to find out what the cancer has taken from them, and what their goals are for how to get back in control. For some, their goal is to beat the cancer no matter what. For others, the goal is to keep walking or to be able to walk again, or to be in less pain. Then we try to tailor our approach to the patient. Often, people think being a surgical oncologist must be a terrible job. But I find something in each patient to admire, because patients dealing with cancer develop a strength the rest of us don’t get to have. Dr. Eward is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Hypermobile Joints. His top areas of expertise are Adult Soft Tissue Sarcoma, Bone Tumor, Desmoid Tumor, Hip Replacement, and Bone Graft.

I am an orthopaedic surgeon who is the chief of hand surgery at Duke. Although we are referred to as “hand surgeons,” I treat many people with wrist and elbow conditions. Because the hand is so complex, patients who see me can have complaints that range from numbness and weakness to issues with range of motion. My grandfather, my grandmother, my mother and my father were all health care workers. I have wanted to be a surgeon since I watched M*A*S*H on the television as a child. I obtain great satisfaction from treating someone who has a very severe hand or arm injury, reconstructing the part and restoring its basic function. Duke has been the strongest hand surgery program in the country for the past 50 to 75 years. As chair of the program, I want patients to know that the best and the brightest providers are seeing them when they come to Duke. Dr. Ruch is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Hypermobile Joints. His top areas of expertise are Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Tennis Elbow, Rhizarthrosis, Osteotomy, and Bone Graft.

One of my earliest memories was seeing my podiatrist as a young child. My doctor was caring, funny, and willing to spend time explaining to a very curious and sometimes scared child why needed custom orthotics was necessary for my painful feet. It was a wonderful relationship that I still cherish and why I feel very honored to now be on the other end of that relationship and able to provide care to my patients. Much of my decision-making is driven not only by my role as a healthcare provider but also by my experiences as a patient. I have a special interest in the treatment pathways for heel pain, ingrown nails and forefoot deformities such as bunions and hammertoes. In my free time, I enjoy traveling with my family, scouting out new restaurants, and trying to brew the perfect cup of coffee. I am the head of shoulder surgery at Duke. Connecting with and caring for patients is very rewarding and is the reason I went into medicine. I take pride in providing both operative and non-operative treatments based not only on the latest research and evidence but also on the unique individual needs and expectations of each patient. Being a tertiary level surgeon means that I frequently manage patients sent to me by other surgeons. “The needs of the patient come first” and “first do no harm” are two phrases that guide me during every patient interaction. This ensures that each patient receives the same care as I would provide a family member of mine. I am supported by an excellent team that all share the same mission of outstanding patient care. I am an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle surgery. My first exposure to foot and ankle surgery was as a patient myself in high school and given that experience, I became fascinated with how injuries occur, how they heal and how we can fix them.Patients come to see me for a variety of foot and ankle injuries and conditions, including sports-related injuries (such as Achilles tendon rupture, ankle instability, Jones fractures and turf toe), foot and ankle trauma (fractures/broken bones), arthritis, tendinitis, bunions and hammertoes. I also have a particular interest in cartilage injuries (osteochondral lesions) of the foot and ankle. I appreciate the challenge that comes with managing injuries and conditions of the foot and ankle. While we may discuss surgery, it’s important to emphasize that my role is to help you avoid surgery whenever possible. Above all, we will offer you the latest treatment advances in arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgery, as well as biological augmentation. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, golfing, working out, watching sports and spending time outside with our energetic puppy. Dr. Murawski is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Hypermobile Joints. What is the definition of Hypermobile Joints?

Hypermobile joints are joints that move beyond the normal range with little effort. Joints most commonly affected are the elbows, wrists, fingers, and knees.

When should I see a Hypermobile Joints doctor near Durham, NC?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

      • Your primary care provider recommends it.
      • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
      • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
      • You need specialized testing or procedures.
      • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Hypermobile Joints doctor near Durham, NC?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Hypermobile Joints doctors near Durham, NC?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Hypermobile Joints doctors near Durham, NC?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Hypermobile Joints doctor near Durham, NC?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Hypermobile Joints doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Hypermobile Joints doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Hypermobile Joints doctor near Durham, NC?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

      • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
      • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
      • Family history of disease
      • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
      • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
      • List of questions and concerns
      • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Hypermobile Joints doctor?

      Here are some sample questions:

      • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
      • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
      • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
      • Are there other specialists I need to see?
      • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Hypermobile Joints doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Hypermobile Joints doctors near Durham, NC?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Hypermobile Joints doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Hypermobile Joints doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Hypermobile Joints doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
