Although I enjoy caring for all cardiac patients, my special interests include patients born with heart defects and now adults, pregnancy with heart disease, and valvular heart disease. In addition, I am interested in keeping people healthy and avoiding heart disease as much as possible. I am the director of the Duke Pediatric/Congenital Cardiac MRI Program and a member of the Duke Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Center. I am also the program director for the Duke Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship Program and am passionate about training the next generation of pediatric cardiologists. I enjoy forming lasting relationships with patients and their families and watching them grow over time. I’m a pediatric cardiologist with a focus on interventional cardiology. We try to find less invasive ways to treat congenital heart disease. We’ve made tremendous advances in the last decade in treating diseases that used to require open heart surgery. We can now treat these with a much less invasive approach. In addition to seeing patients in the clinic, I do procedures in the cath lab like closing atrial septal defects and certain valve replacements. At Duke we collaborate and work well together using a team approach to help our patients. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my two children and getting outdoors.
