
Overview
Nationally and internationally renowned hand surgeon Dr. Steven Beldner is Co-Director and Co-Founder of the Hand and Wrist Surgery Center of Lenox Hill. He was recruited to build a world class hand and wrist center for NSLIJ after he succeeded in starting and building a similar program at Mt. Sinai/Beth Israel Medical Center in NYC where he has practiced for 20 years.
A fellow of the American Board of Orthopedic Surgeons, he is board-certified in Orthopedics and credentialed in Hand Surgery. Dr. Beldner was elected President of the New York Society of the Hand by his tristate peers and has served on its board. He has published and lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally, on problems related to the hand, wrist and elbow. His expertise is frequently sought by professional chefs, fashion designers, musicians, artists and athletic teams in the NHL, NBA and New York State Athletic Commission.
Dr. Beldner earned his medical degree from Rutgers Medical School in 1991 and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and was also elected its president. His postgraduate training included a surgical internship at NYU Medical Center, followed by an Orthopedic Surgery residency and Hand Fellowship also at NYU. Upon graduation, he became an active NYU staff member. At Beth Israel/ Mt Sinai Medical Centers, he was an original founder of their hand fellowship and served as their director of education. For over a decade, he was responsible for training plastic surgery residents from Albert Einstein College of Medicine about managing problems of the hand and wrist.
An active member of the International Wrist Investigators Workshop, Dr. Beldner is part of a select group of physicians from around the globe who are invited to help develop and lead research of complicated wrist conditions and share their experiences.
