Dr. Emerson graduated cum laude from Loyola University, New Orleans with a degree in Chemistry. Prior to starting medical school, he spent a year conducting research at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center. Dr. Emerson graduated from Midwestern University with a degree in Osteopathic Medicine. He went on to complete an internship and radiology residency at Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago.
