My passion for treating movement disorders grew after seeing dramatic improvements in my patients' quality of life due to both medical and surgical treatments. My specialty involves a combination of procedures (botulinum toxin injections, deep brain stimulator placement, and programming) and medication adjustments. As I deal with chronic disease, I enjoy getting to know my patients and families long-term. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time outdoors and traveling to new places whenever I get the chance. I fell in love with neurology on day one of my clerkship year in medical school. To me, the opportunity to help patients and families through complex illnesses is simultaneously challenging and incredibly rewarding. I ultimately chose to sub-specialize in movement disorders because I enjoy being able to form long-term relationships with patients and families, and I'm optimistic that a disease-modifying therapy for Parkinson disease is within reach. I'm also a core faculty member of Duke's Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities, and the History of Medicine, where I develop programs to help students and trainees understand the patient's perspective, improving clinician resilience and mitigating burnout. Outside of work, I am an avid runner and cyclist, looking forward to exploring trails around the Triangle.
