She followed that with a fellowship at Geisinger Medical Center.|“I love both the clinical and educational aspects of my job,” Dr. Koons says. “I get to treat the whole patient and remain knowledgeable about every organ system. I enjoy solving clinical puzzles by putting together clues from a patient’s history and physical exam. I also get purpose from my involvement in the rheumatology fellowship program. I love teaching and serving as a mentor to those just entering the field of rheumatology.”|Having a father who was a family medicine doctor inspired Dr. Koons to go into medicine, where she can now fuel others’ inspirations. “I am proud that I have become the rheumatology fellowship program director early in my career, and look forward to many years of teaching fellows,” she says.|Dr. Koons is a native of Selinsgrove. In her spare time, she enjoys hiking, running, traveling and spending time with her spouse and their two children.
