Dr. Zakkary J. Walterscheid

Dr. Mary Kate Thayer is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in hand and upper extremity surgery. She cares for both adults and children. Dr. Thayer received her BA in psychology from the University of Washington and her MD from Saint Louis University School of Medicine where she graduated Alpha Omega Alpha (highest honors). She then returned home to the Northwest and completed her Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Washington. To finalize her training, she relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, and completed a fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at the Curtis National Hand Center, one of the top fellowship programs in the country. There, she received world-class training in the treatment of both common and complex disorders of the hand and upper extremity. Dr. Thayer is published in the topics of hand, wrist, and trauma surgery and has presented much of this research at national and local meetings. In addition, she has a passion for mentoring and education. She has participated in the Perry Outreach Program and the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society’s mentorship program. These programs both share a goal of inspiring young women to become leaders in orthopaedic surgery. Dr. Thayer finds satisfaction in helping patients restore function of their upper extremity to return to work, family, hobbies, and sports. She works directly with patients to develop individualized care plans, both surgical and non-surgical, to achieve these goals. This is achieved through open communication with patients and education about the diagnosis and treatment options. She prides herself on a thorough and thoughtful approach to each patient. She has a special interest in fractures, sports injuries, arthritis, and nerve conditions of the upper extremity. Dr. Thayer is a local Washingtonian. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Lew, and her daughter. She is an avid runner, cooking enthusiast, and Seattle sports fan. Dr. Cameron Schick is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in the treatment of general orthopedic trauma and fracture care. He is also subspecialty trained in the management of upper extremity conditions from the hand to the shoulder. He cares for patients on the Eastside and works at Evergreen, Overlake, and Swedish Hospitals. Dr. Schick attended The University of Texas Medical School where he graduated with honors. He was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society and awarded the Gold Humanism Award in medical school. After completing an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Iowa, he received subspecialty training at the Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center, which is considered one of the best upper extremity training centers in the United States. In addition to the treatment of general orthopedic injuries, such as fracture care, Dr. Schick’s area of expertise is any injury or disorder of the upper extremity, including treatment of the hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, and shoulder. As a former collegiate athlete himself, Dr. Schick is also interested in treating sports-related injuries of the upper extremity, including arthroscopy of the wrist, elbow, and shoulder. He is a team physician for the Issaquah High School football team and understands the needs and desires of the athlete. Additionally, he received specialty training in microvascular surgery and is capable of small vessel and nerve repair. Dr. Schick is committed to an outstanding patient experience with the most up-to-date surgical techniques, a thorough understanding of the patient’s needs, and heartfelt care. Dr. Robon did his undergraduate work at the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from medical school at The Ohio State University. He completed his fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital. Earlier, in his years as a competitive All-American swimmer, Dr. Robon endured years of medical treatment for multiple orthopaedic injuries. These experiences shaped his practice philosophy today; good patient care involves making accurate and timely diagnoses, but equally important is treating patients with respect and compassion. By helping his patients understand their problem, this not only results in the treatment of the immediate problem, but hopefully, helps to avoid future injuries and pain. Additionally, Dr. Robon is married and has three sons. He and his wife enjoy exploring the great outdoors by skiing, hiking, golfing and trail running in the Cascades. Dr. Robon is Board-certified in Hand and Orthopedic Surgery. He treats patients with all types of orthopaedic fractures in addition to his specialty focus in hand and upper extremity surgery.
