Dr. Octav Cristea

Dr. Eric M. Gibney is a program director for Piedmont Transplant Institute. He is a transplant nephrologist who specializes in kidney diseases and transplantation. Dr. Gibney's special interests include living kidney donation, transplant outreach, kidney disease in patients with liver disease, transplantation in HIV and clinical immunosuppression. He is involved with national committee work in living donor paired exchange, patient safety, and fellowship education in addition to being the Mason Endowed Chair in Transplant Services. Prior to joining Piedmont Transplant Institute, Dr. Gibney was a transplant nephrologist with the Division of Nephrology at the Hume-Lee Transplant Center at Virginia Commonwealth University. Dr. Gibney received his medical degree from Emory University School of Medicine and completed his fellowship in renal transplantation and nephrology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver. He completed his residency at New York University School of Medicine where he was also chief medical resident. He also performed post-graduate work in clinical research and biostatistics at the University of Colorado. Dr. Gibney is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology and has been published in numerous medical journals. Dr. Klein received her bachelors of science in ecology and evolutionary biology from the University of Arizona where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Dr. Klein earned her medical degree from UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles, Calif. She completed her residency in internal medicine at UCSF in San Francisco, Calif. Her fellowship in nephrology was completed at the University of Colorado. In addition to her nephrology fellowship, she finished a medical transplant fellowship at the University of Wisconsin. Prior to joining Piedmont Transplant Institute, Dr. Klein was a transplant nephrologist at Washington University School of Medicine as the Medical Director for high risk kidney transplantation and pancreas transplantation. She also served as the Transplant Fellowship Program Director. Dr. Klein has been practicing medicine for 13 years and is board certified in internal medicine and nephrology. She is also a member of the American Society of Transplantation and the American Society of Nephrology. Dr. Klein welcomes new patients and accepts most insurance plans. Gregory Mitchell, M.D. is a board-certified urologist with expertise in treating a broad range of male and female urologic problems. In addition to general adult urology, Dr. Mitchell is highly skilled in minimally invasive urologic, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery as well as endourology. Dr. Mitchell is experienced in treating prostate cancer, kidney cancer, bladder cancer, complex kidney stones, erectile dysfunction, and other urologic conditions with innovative and minimally invasive approaches. He also routinely performs in-office procedures such as vasectomy, cystoscopy, and prostate biopsy.After growing up in Atlanta and graduating from Georgia Tech with a B.S. in Biology in 2005, Dr. Mitchell earned an M.S. in Biology from Penn State followed by his M.D. from Tulane University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery internship and urology residency at Tulane, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha and served as Chief Resident 2016-2017. Dr. Mitchell has authored many peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He is a member of the American Urological Association, the Southeastern Section of the AUA, the American Board of Urology, and the Georgia Urological Association and has been recognized with several professional awards.Dr. Mitchell works to provide comprehensive, compassionate care focused on each individual patient.
