Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida
I began working at Nemours Children’s Hospital in July 2016 after completing my fellowship training at Nemours/duPont Hospital for Children in Delaware. I was excited to continue on with Nemours because I am proud to be a physician in an environment where we uphold the standards that your children are our No. 1 priority. I’ve always wanted to be a pediatrician. When I was five years old I remember telling my very own pediatrician, “One day, I’ll grow up and work at your office!” I chose gastroenterology because it’s a dynamic field where I get to work with kids of all ages in many different care settings including inpatient, outpatient and procedure. I stand true with the “Your child, our promise” motto. I am excited to share the Nemours commitment to patient-centered care — medicine, which allows me to make a real difference in a family’s life. Every child has a right to play, eat and learn, and I believe it’s my duty to create a better world for kids to succeed. My passion is helping families build a healthy, peaceful environment for children to live symptom-free and achieve their highest potential. I also enjoy giving lectures and providing mentorship to the physicians of tomorrow. Medicine allows me to make a real difference in a family’s life, which is why I stay up-to-date with the latest treatments and research. I have always been intrigued by new developments in medicine that create new hope for a child. I listen to my patients and parents and I’m always here to offer reassurance and a reason to smile — because kids deserve it. Prior to joining the Nemours, Dr. Viswanathan served as a faculty member of the Innovative Feeding Disorders Program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. His academic vision is to develop translational clinical research protocols to transform dysfunctional feeding patterns in NICU infants. He has published more than 25 peer-reviewed articles and is an active peer reviewer for a dozen leading pediatric journals. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and a member of the Dysphagia Research Society. After my extensive pediatric training in India, UK and the US, I found looking after and caring for critically ill newborn children to be my calling and decided to become a neonatologist. There is nothing more satisfying than watching an unwell newborn baby get better and go home. I believe in the adage “There are two things we should give our children: one is roots and the other is wings.” Being born early or sick is not something we can control, but I strive to provide the best possible care to enable them to hold their ground in the world outside of the NICU. There have been many advances in neonatal care in recent years. I am an avid researcher and believe in evidence-based practices to provide the most up-to-date care. I am particularly passionate about preventing and solving feeding and nutrition-related disorders in neonates as I strongly believe that optimizing early nutrition and growth is critical for the long-term health of newborn babies. No two babies are the same. This is especially true in neonatology. I treat every baby with passion and purpose by putting the babies and their families at the center of everything by sharing timely information and building trust. I believe in working collaboratively with my team and partnering with parents for the best possible outcome for each and every baby. Dr. Viswanathan is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Tracheoesophageal Fistula. He is also highly rated in 2 other conditions, according to our data. His clinical expertise encompasses Premature Infant, Gastroesophageal Reflux in Infants, Necrotizing Enterocolitis, and Anemia. Dr. Viswanathan is board certified in American Board Of Pediatrics.
Nemours Children's Hospital, Florida
I’ve wanted to care for people since I was very young. From the end of high school through medical school, I volunteered as a paramedic. During those 10 years, I saw how patients live and their struggles to care for sick children at home. This has helped me care for my patients because I understand the many challenges that their family may face. I chose pediatric surgery when I realized that I could be a voice for patients who have either a small voice or no voice at all. I’m passionate about pediatric surgical oncology and advocating for tumor detection in the early stages. Children’s complaints can be inarticulate and difficult to pin down, so they are sometimes labeled just a normal part of childhood. My job is to listen, recognize the issues, and speak up for them. When I joined the surgery department, I worked to establish an Orlando-based tumor board of Nemours specialists to help manage our cancer patients. As a member of the board, I represent the surgical oncology patients. Also, my laboratory is dedicated to the basic science study of neuroblastoma, which I plan to translate into clinical care. "I was born and raised in the southern Philippines. After I married, we moved a lot — from Taiwan to Virginia to New York to Pennsylvania. Some of these moves were for my continuing education and training. They taught me to be adaptable in the rapidly changing world of medicine, where new discoveries can have profound effects on patient care. Sending happy, healthy babies home with their parents is so rewarding. Extremely premature babies stay with us for months, so we often form lasting friendships with their families. Many send cards or come by to """"show off"""" their children as they grow up. It is immensely satisfying to know that I’ve made the world better for a child and a family. I care deeply about providing the best possible outcomes for the most fragile, tiniest babies in the NICU (ICU for newborns). Part of that is finding and implementing better ways to optimally address their medical challenges. This is why I am also passionate about research opportunities in a field so filled with clinical and scientific questions. I like to work with parents and providers to improve developmental care in the neonatal unit. This care optimizes the infant’s long-term neurodevelopment (normal brain and nervous system maturation), both in terms of outcome and the ability to adapt throughout life, and it decreases the negatives of being born prematurely and sick.". Dr. Chua is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Tracheoesophageal Fistula.
