Brad B. Swelstad, M.D. earned his medical degree from St. George’s University and completed his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at The Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas. He then went on to complete a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Brad B. Dr. Swelstad received a Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) stem cell research grant during his postdoctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins for his work related to germline stem cells in the adult human ovary. As a former Howard Hughes medical scholar, Dr. Swelstad has received several academic and clinical honors during his career, including Outstanding Resident in OB/GYN, and the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society Scholarship, a merit-based award for excellence in research. He has served as both medical director of a fertility practice and university clinical instructor for OB/GYN residents. Dr. Swelstad is a fellow of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and is board certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. His personal interests include fly fishing, white water rafting, photography, soccer, tennis, skiing, running, and cooking. Dr. Swelstad often enjoys brewing his own nitro coffee and playing the didgeridoo, an instrument he learned to play while he was doing clinical research in Australia. Jennifer Hsu, M.D., earned a full undergraduate merit scholarship from University of Virginia, where she continued her graduate studies and earned a medical degree. As a University of Virginia Medical School student, Dr. Hsu extended her research efforts abroad in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala and was ultimately honored with the Medical Alumni Association (MAA) Outstanding Medical Student Award. Dr. Hsu traveled north from Virginia to complete her residency at Columbia University Medical Center, then on to Boston to complete her fellowship in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Hsu is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and reproductive endocrinology and infertility. She is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (SREI), American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), and the Pacific Coast Reproductive Society (PCRS). An accomplished researcher, Dr. Hsu has contributed to more than 15 presentations across the country on topics including intrauterine insemination (IUI), anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH), and polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). She has also served as a peer-reviewer for several publications including the Journal of Assisted Reproduction and Genetics. Dr. Hsu is very active in the medical community, with experience as a lecturer and oral examiner at Harvard Medical School. She has also given back to a rural community by providing free medical, and women’s health services at outreach events in Appalachia. Dr. Hsu has proudly returned to Virginia, where she’ll be joining SGF at the Woodbridge location. She speaks Spanish fluently, further broadening her fertility care to diverse communities. Eric D. Levens, M.D., FACOG, received his bachelor of science degree with highest distinction from Indiana University-Bloomington. He then pursued his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston and went on to complete his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Florida. He continued his training as a clinical fellow in reproductive endocrinology and infertility at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Levens is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and subspecialty board certified in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. He has been focused on infertility for the last decade of his career. In addition to an active clinical practice, Dr. Levens is committed to improving the success of fertility care through active research and national advocacy. He has authored more than 85 publications in the field of reproductive endocrinology and infertility, including for the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association. Dr. Levens has served on Infertility National Advisory Boards and has been a part of the American Medical Association, where he has worked to develop policy to improve access to fertility care, including insurance coverage for fertility preservation. He is chair of the Quality Assurance Committee for the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technologies, the professional organization that oversees the delivery of in vitro fertilization care throughout the United States. He is also a member of the Society for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, a selective national group recognizing fewer than a thousand physicians, and previously served on the practice committee, developing national patient care guidelines. Prior to joining Shady Grove Fertility, Dr. Levens was a lieutenant commander in the United States Public Health Service, and served as a staff clinician focused on complex fertility disorders in the Program in Reproductive and Adult Endocrinology at the National Institutes of Health and the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
