I’m a reconstructive urologic surgeon who also cares for cancer survivors. Cancer survivorship care focuses on providing patients and families relief from the symptoms, pain and distress that may develop after and during cancer therapy. I decided I wanted to go into medicine while in high school after feeling a sense of duty to serve those around me; this was the same calling that drew me to service in the military for 23 years. I became interested in pelvic floor disorders because of the emphasis on improving the quality of life. For most pelvic floor disorders – bladder, bowel, sexual dysfunction, or vaginal bulge – there are usually multiple treatment options with different pros and cons. Because each woman is different, I tend to teach each patient about her own pelvic floor issues, and then we collaborate to develop a treatment plan that incorporates her specific goals. I have been providing obstetrical and gynecologic care in the Triangle for more than 20 years.
