I diagnose and treat cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, supraventricular tachycardias (SVT), atrial flutter, and ventricular arrhythmias. I perform catheter ablation procedures, including minimally invasive catheter surgery, for these conditions. I also implant and manage devices, such as pacemakers, defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) pacemakers or defibrillators. I also evaluate patients for possible genetic causes for sudden cardiac arrest or arrhythmias. Collaborating with a genetic counselor specializing in cardiac disorders, I perform genetic testing for these conditions. In addition, I evaluate athletes with cardiac conditions, focusing on arrhythmias and abnormal electrocardiograms. I am an interventional cardiologist and researcher who has been at Duke for nearly 20 years. I enjoy being at Duke because of the “family” I get to work with every day. When we are able to make a patient feel better through teamwork; it’s a great feeling. I chose cardiology as my specialty because of the chance to make a difference in someone’s life in real time. When someone is having a heart attack, they are relying on you to come to their aid quickly. At that moment, I get to apply science to save a life, while learning more about what we can do to help improve people’s lives in the future. In that way, medicine also gives me the chance to learn from my patients and apply what I find to benefit the greater good. I find that whole process is exciting. When I am not at work, I enjoy spending time with my school-aged children. Dr. Patel is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Ventricular Fibrillation. His top areas of expertise are Peripheral Artery Disease, Atherosclerosis, Coronary Heart Disease, Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI), and Angioplasty.

I wanted to be a doctor from the time I was very young, but it was when my own father had a heart attack in his 30’s that I knew I wanted to be a heart specialist. As a general cardiologist here at Duke, I care for patients with a wide range of heart issues including palpitations, abnormalities, hypertension and heart attacks. I work between two clinics, serving people from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds in the community. Although I focus on many therapeutic issues within cardiology, one of my main interests is cardiac arrest, specifically regarding survival of patients who have undergone CPR in a non hospital setting. I love getting to know my patients and finding things that connect us outside of their health or diagnosis. It is a privilege, as a physician, to be allowed entry into patients’ lives to listen, to comfort and to care for them during a difficult time in their health journey. Dr. Anderson is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Ventricular Fibrillation. One of the special things about electrophysiology here is that we have we have a really large department. We have 13 electrophysiologists, which is more than some cities have. A unique aspect of Duke is that there is a lot of collegiality among our providers. We certainly approach patients as a team. That’s a huge benefit for patients coming to Duke. With such a large and unique department, we’re certainly able to deal with many complex patients. Some of my favorite patients are those I have followed for years. It’s an ongoing relationship that I have and seeing them come back and telling me about all the wonderful things they are doing is really satisfying. I came to Duke as a visiting medical student many years ago and fell in love with this institution and its people. I love to be part of a group that contributes knowledge and discoveries every day. As an electrophysiologist, I treat people with heart rhythm disorders, including atrial arrhythmias like atrial fibrillation and ventricular arrhythmias. I mostly focus on the prevention of sudden cardiac death and on patients with devices such as pacemakers and implantable defibrillators. We do everything we can to build a very good and strong relationship with patients; we provide them with the information they need and empower them to make the decisions that are best for them. We’re also at the cutting edge of new discoveries. The research we do is amazing – the findings that help patients and advance the field make working at Duke thrilling. It’s very exciting to be part of that. For these reasons, patients benefit greatly from coming to Duke. I have always been fascinated by medicine and combining science with the art. I fell in love with cardiology after witnessing one of my family members struggle with heart disease. It was then that I decided to dedicate my life to helping prevent heart disease and help patients with coronary artery disease achieve an acceptable quality of life. As my career progressed, I became interested in complex coronary interventions, including CTOs (chronic total occlusions of coronary vessels). Patients with chronically clogged heart arteries are often told nothing can be done or worse, nothing should be done. They are relegated to living with debilitating symptoms of shortness of breath, chest pain, and fatigue. I believe we owe it to our patients to continue to work and find ways for them to feel better and improve their quality of life. This is the foundation for which we based the Duke Chronic Total Occlusion and Complex Coronary artery disease program. Our hope is that through collaboration and innovation we can help patients with advanced heart disease live relatively symptom-free. In my time away from work, I love spending time and traveling with my wife and two children. Dr. Othman is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Ventricular Fibrillation. I usually take care of two types of patients. One is patients with coronary artery disease who have blockages in the heart arteries. The other is peripheral artery disease with blockages in the leg arteries. I treat patients both in the clinic and in the hospital. In the hospital, I provide treatment opening these blockages with balloons and stents. Duke is unique because of its ability to provide innovative treatments to patients. A lot of places around the state and country can provide standard of care, and I think Duke does a really good job of offering that. But the thing that really sets Duke apart is the ability to go one step further and provide new treatments that may provide benefits that others can’t offer. I met a patient early in my training who really had no options for treatment. She had a blockage in a leg artery that we could not open with a balloon and stent. We injected her with cells under a research protocol, and she really experienced a tremendous benefit. We thought it would be short-lasting but we saw her back a couple of months ago and she’s still doing well. That really solidified my interest in doing research on these novel, innovative treatments to our patients. Dr. Schuyler is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Ventricular Fibrillation. His top areas of expertise are Angina, Arterial Insufficiency, Peripheral Artery Disease, Arterial Embolism, and Atherectomy.

I’ve been interested in medicine ever since I was a child. I see medicine as being an ideal opportunity to do something interesting because I don’t think there’s anything more interesting than the human body and fixing it when it’s not working correctly. As the director of Duke’s Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, I see patients in the intensive care unit, but also see patients in the clinic. When I first meet a patient, the most important thing for me is to establish trust and understanding with them. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my children, reading and keeping up with Duke sports. What is the definition of Ventricular Fibrillation?

Ventricular fibrillation (VF) is a severely abnormal heart rhythm (arrhythmia) that is life threatening.

When should I see a Ventricular Fibrillation doctor near Morrisville, NC?

There are various reasons why you may want to see a specialist, such as:

      • Your primary care provider recommends it.
      • Your condition requires expert knowledge and specialized care.
      • Your symptoms persist or worsen despite treatment.
      • You need specialized testing or procedures.
      • You want a second opinion.

What should I consider when choosing a Ventricular Fibrillation doctor near Morrisville, NC?

It’s important to see a provider with expertise in your specific condition. Each provider profile in MediFind’s doctor database includes information on which conditions they treat, years of experience, research contributions, languages spoken, insurance plans accepted, and more.

How does MediFind rank Ventricular Fibrillation doctors near Morrisville, NC?

MediFind’s rankings are based on a variety of data sources, such as the number of articles a doctor has published in medical journals, participation in clinical trials and industry conferences, as well as the number of patients that provider sees for a given condition. Note that MediFind’s provider database is not based on user reviews, and providers do not pay to be included in the database.

What types of insurance are accepted by Ventricular Fibrillation doctors near Morrisville, NC?

Most profiles in MediFind’s doctor database include a list of insurance plans accepted by that provider. However, it’s a good idea to contact the provider’s office to make sure they still accept your insurance, then doublecheck by contacting your insurance plan to confirm they’re in network.

How can I book an appointment online with a Ventricular Fibrillation doctor near Morrisville, NC?

MediFind offers direct scheduling for certain providers using the “Request Appointment” button on that provider’s profile. If the schedule option is not available for a provider, tap the red “Show Phone Number” button on their profile to get their contact information. If you prefer to find providers who offer online scheduling, select “Schedules online” under the “Availability” category of the filter feature on the left side of the Ventricular Fibrillation doctor search results page.

Why is it important to get a second opinion from a different Ventricular Fibrillation doctor?

Second opinions are an opportunity to confirm a diagnosis and its root cause, learn about alternative treatment options, or simply gain peace of mind. Many people, especially those with serious diagnoses, get second opinions so they can understand all their options and make informed decisions, so don’t hesitate to get one if you have any doubts or need more information or clarification regarding your care. Note that some insurance plans require second opinions, while others don’t cover second opinions, so be sure to confirm with your insurance provider first.

How can I prepare for my appointment with a Ventricular Fibrillation doctor near Morrisville, NC?

Prepare for your appointment by gathering the following items:

      • Copies of medical records (dating back at least one year)
      • Your medical history, including illnesses, medical conditions, surgeries, and other doctors you see
      • Family history of disease
      • List of current prescription drugs, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal remedies or supplements including names and doses
      • Allergies to medications, food, latex, insects, etc.
      • List of questions and concerns
      • Your insurance card

You might also contact the provider’s office to see if they offer transportation or childcare services or if you’re allowed to bring a loved one for support or to take notes during your visit.

What questions should I ask my Ventricular Fibrillation doctor?

      Here are some sample questions:

      • Can you explain in simple terms what this condition is and how it’s treated?
      • What symptoms or side effects should I watch for?
      • What tests will be involved, and when can I expect results?
      • Are there other specialists I need to see?
      • What’s the best way to reach you if I have follow-up questions?

How can I learn about the latest clinical trials and research advances my Ventricular Fibrillation doctor may know about?

MediFind’s Clinical Trials tool asks you a series of questions to help you narrow down your search by health condition, age, gender, location, how far you’re willing to travel, and more. Each question you answer filters down the number of trials until you find the ones that are most relevant to you.

MediFind’s Latest Advances tool features summaries of recent articles published in medical journals. We use cutting-edge technology to scour medical publication databases for the latest research advancements on any given condition, then we simplify this information in a way that’s useful and easy to understand.

Can I filter my search to show male or female Ventricular Fibrillation doctors near Morrisville, NC?

Look for the filter feature on the left side of the Ventricular Fibrillation doctor search results page. Select “Female” or “Male” under the “Gender” category to search for female or male providers exclusively. If the “Any” option is selected, it will pull results for both male and female providers.

Can I filter my search to find a Ventricular Fibrillation doctor that offers video calls?

Look for the filter feature on the left-side of the Ventricular Fibrillation doctor search results page. Select “Offers telehealth visits” under the Availability category to search for providers who offer virtual appointments (video calls).
