Dr. Purdy is a board-certified and fellowship-trained pulmonary and critical care physician with a special focus on advanced therapies for asthma and COPD, lung cancer diagnosis and management, as well as interstitial lung disease. He performs procedures such as bronchoscopy and endobronchial ultrasound and specializes in caring for the critically ill patient. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Delaware, Dr. Purdy earned his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine. He then completed his internal medicine residency at Atlantic Health System – Overlook Medical Center in Summit, New Jersey, where he served as chief resident. Following his residency, he pursued a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at St. Luke’s University Health Network in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. He is certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease and critical care by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Purdy chose pulmonary and critical care medicine because he enjoys establishing meaningful relationships with patients in the office setting while also working in the fast-paced environment of an intensive care unit. He believes in establishing trust between physician and patient to deliver high-quality care. Helping patients recover from near death experiences and improving their day-to-day health is rewarding for Dr. Purdy. His goal is to deliver outstanding patient care with excellent communication, compassion, empathy, knowledge and a strong work ethic. After growing up in New York, Dr. Purdy appreciates the warm weather and family-friendly environment in Hampton Roads. He is married and enjoys sports, the outdoors, exploring new restaurants and spending time with family and friends.
