Benjamin Kuritzkes, MD, FACS, FASCRS is the section chief of colorectal surgery at Overlook Medical Center. He is board-certified in surgery and surgical critical care by the American Board of Surgery, and in colorectal surgery by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He is a clinical assistant professor at Robert Wood Johnson-Rutgers University and is one of the core teaching faculty of the Eugene Salvati/ RWJ colorectal surgery fellowship. Dr. Kuritzkes’ practice focuses on the surgical management of colon and rectal cancer, diverticulitis, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, and anorectal conditions. He often employs a multidisciplinary approach to maximize both treatment success and quality of life. He is skilled in minimally invasive surgical techniques, and uses robotic surgery, laparoscopic surgery, and trans-anal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) whenever indicated; these techniques provide patients with the benefits of a shorter recovery time, and faster return to normal activity. The recipient of the prestigious Gold Award for Humanism and Excellence in Teaching from Columbia University, where he was previously an assistant professor of colorectal surgery, Dr. Kuritzkes has a deep understanding of how clinical excellence must be combined with compassion and respect to provide optimal patient care. He works alongside his patients to find the best, individualized treatment plan for them, that incorporates their personal goals and preferences. Dr. Kuritzkes earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University, and his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. He completed his surgical residency at New York Presbyterian/ Columbia University Irving Medical Center, and his fellowship training in colon and rectal surgery at Penn Medicine/ University of Pennsylvania. He additionally completed fellowship training in anesthesiology and critical care medicine at Columbia University. He is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and serves on numerous other regional and national scientific committees. He is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
