Overview
Dr. Munn earned his medical degree from the Wake Forest University School of Medicine after receiving a Master of Science in biology. He completed surgical residency training at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, where he later served as a teaching surgeon. Dr. Munn is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery. As chief of surgery and director of trauma and acute care surgery at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Dr. Munn remains prepared to face any complex surgical problem with no time to waste. He is well equipped by his thirteen years in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps, during which he received awards for surgical service in Afghanistan. While Dr. Munn's primary focus is always on the immediate injury or illness his patient is facing, he strives to create a multidisciplinary approach that supports the broader needs of the patient and their loved ones during extremely difficult situations. He specializes in major torso trauma and surgical critical care, hernia repair, gastrointestinal and biliary surgery, disorders of the skin and breast, and advanced laparoscopy including anti-reflux surgery. Raised on a small farm in northern Maryland, Dr. Munn now enjoys the thriving Hampton Roads area and its strong ties to the military, where he values being part of a community-focused trauma center. Dr. Munn uses his free time for running, water sports, scuba diving and travel.
