
Overview
Dr. Elizabeth Klag specializes in the treatment of hip and knee arthritis, and in performing hip and knee replacement surgery. She enjoys helping her patients with years of joint pain regain mobility and improve their quality of life. She can manage arthritis non-operatively with medications and injections and help patients determine when the time is right to pursue surgery. Dr. Klag can perform either an anterior or a posterior approach for total hip arthroplasty based on the needs of the patient. She also uses technology, including robotics, when needed to achieve the optimal result for the patient. In addition to primary hip and knee replacement, Dr. Klag also specializes in complex and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. She can manage complications surrounding joint replacements, including infection, fractures, and implant failures. Dr. Klag is originally from Northeast Ohio and obtained her medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine. She then completed her Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, followed by a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. She has done research on peri-operative care of joint replacement patients and prevention of complications in joint replacement surgery. Dr. Klag has been on multiple mission trips to Honduras where she was able to perform life-changing joint replacement surgery for many patients in need.

Dr. Biermann serves as Director of the Musculoskeletal Oncology Program at the University of Michigan. Her clinical interests include malignant and benign tumors of soft tissue and bone, both primary and metastatic. Her practice includes both adults and children. Dr. Biermann chairs the Multidisciplinary Sarcoma Tumor Board, a collaborative cancer center group including medical and pediatric oncologists, pathologist, diagnostic radiologists, and radiation therapists. The Sarcoma clinic meets weekly. The University of Michigan Sarcoma team engages in patient care, clinical trials, and basic science research. In addition to her regional responsibilities, Dr. Biermann has been active in national committee and administrative work. She chairs the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Bone Tumors Panel. She is past president of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS). She is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). She sits on the Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (OREF) Grant Board. Her active research program has included more than 87 publications in the areas of musculoskeletal tumors and in the impact of the Internet on patient education. Dr. Biermann is the University of Michigan Medical Director for the Sarcoma Program and the Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program Director. She is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA) and in 2012 she was selected to represent POSNA in Northern Europe as one of the POSNA Traveling Fellows, where she studied and taught at major European centers. Dr. Caird is board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Scoliosis Research Society, and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America.
