Garneisha Torrence, DPM, MHMS is a dually appointed Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Vascular Surgery and Internal Medicine in the Division of Metabolism, Endocrinology, and Diabetes at the University of Michigan Medical School. She is also the Podiatry Section Chief at the VA Ann Arbor Health Care System. At the University of Michigan, she serves as the Director of the Podiatry Fellowship Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Program. Dr. Torrence completed her undergraduate studies at Spelman College in Atlanta, GA and a Master’s in Health Management Systems at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Torrence earned her degree in podiatric medicine from the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine. She completed her podiatric medicine and surgery residency at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System in Seattle, WA. She then completed a research fellowship in Limb Preservation, Wound Care, and Diabetes Related Lower Extremity Complications at the University of Michigan. Her research interests are diabetes-related limb salvage, diabetic foot osteomyelitis and the psycho-social aspects of the diabetic foot.
