Dr. Geoffrey Konopka is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). He obtained a Master’s of Public Health degree at George Washington University in Washington, DC, where he worked for the D.C. Primary Care Association. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University, where he was chosen to join the Gold Humanism Honor Society. While in medical school Dr Konopka conducted award-winning orthopaedic research in the Trauma Training Center, winning first prize at the New York Society for Surgery of the Hand Residents and Fellows Annual Meeting in 2010 and 2011. Dr. Konopka then performed his internship and residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). He completed at fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital at the University of Miami Medical School. A published author and medical illustrator, Dr Konopka has published and illustrated research on orthopaedic trauma, microsurgery, degenerative arthritis of the hand, pediatric hand surgery, hand tumors, and more. He has presented his research at the local, national, and international level. Dr. Konopka is interested in providing the best available, research-based medicine to his patients and community.

Dr. Eric Klineberg received his undergraduate degree from Rice University and then a master’s degree in zoology and neural networks at the University of Maryland, before earning his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at the University of Washington Medical System in Seattle then a combined neurosurgery and orthopedic surgical spine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio. Dr. Klineberg is board certified in orthopedic surgery. His primary clinical interests include spinal degeneration, deformity, tumor and fracture; adult and pediatric spinal deformity surgery; and cervical compression and deformity. Dr. Klineberg is committed to excellence in surgical care with an emphasis on communication, compassion and empathy. He strives to treat each patient as he would like himself or a family member to be treated. A professor and vice chair in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, Dr. Klineberg serves as Chief of Orthopedic Spine Surgery and holds the Milton “Chip” Routt Endowed Chair of Spinal Surgery. His research, teaching and clinical activity have earned Dr. Klineberg an international reputation in spinal deformity surgery. Author of over then 300 publications and book chapters, he also edited Adult Lumbar Scoliosis, A Clinical Guide to Diagnosis and Management and is a principal or co-principal investigator for more than a half-dozen clinical studies. His major research interests are enhancement of spinal fusion with stem cells and proteins and spinal deformity and outcomes. He serves on the board of directors of the Scoliosis Research Society and on the executive committee of the International Spine Study Group. He is also the North American Chair of AO Spine, a global academic community that promotes excellence in education, research, patient care and outcomes.
