Girmay Tekle-Yohannes, MD, is a board-certified pediatric hematologist oncologist. After his residencies, he completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital.|A young child he met during his residency inspired him to practice in his specialty. “That child was exceptionally resilient,” he says. “Their family sold their house to purchase chemotherapy from abroad during a time of drug shortage.”|“The Children’s Oncology Group further consolidated my interest,” he notes. “They developed evidence-based and protocol-based cancer therapy and conducted multi-institution cooperative research that resulted in improvement of childhood cancer survival.”|Dr. Tekle-Yohannes is an accomplished researcher and presenter. He also serves as a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine in Scranton.|He's an active member of several professional organizations and societies, including The American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Children’s Oncology Group, American Academy of Pediatrics and American Society of Hematology.
