Jennifer Ann Kovatch, MD, is a board-certified physician specializing in pediatric hematology oncology.|Dr. Kovatch and her team treat children up to age 13 for conditions such as leukemia/lymphoma, solid tumors, benign tumors and benign hematology (anemia, bleeding disorders and clotting disorders).|Dr. Kovatch performs procedures including lumbar puncture, intrathecal chemotherapy (when chemotherapy is delivered into cerebrospinal fluid), and bone marrow aspiration and biopsy.|She was inspired by her own experience as a pediatric hematology oncology patient to pursue a career in medicine and make a difference in the lives of children. “I love getting to know my patients and helping them achieve their therapeutic goals,” she says.|Dr. Kovatch earned her Doctor of Medicine from the Ross University School of Medicine in the West Indies in 2014. She completed her residency at the University of Missouri in 2017 and a fellowship at the Penn State College of Medicine in 2020.|She is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology oncology by the American Board of Pediatrics.|A New Jersey native, Dr. Kovatch enjoys renovating her home, yardwork and fostering cats in her spare time. After his residencies, he completed a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at Cleveland Clinic Children’s Hospital.|A young child he met during his residency inspired him to practice in his specialty. “That child was exceptionally resilient,” he says. “Their family sold their house to purchase chemotherapy from abroad during a time of drug shortage.”|“The Children’s Oncology Group further consolidated my interest,” he notes. “They developed evidence-based and protocol-based cancer therapy and conducted multi-institution cooperative research that resulted in improvement of childhood cancer survival.”|Dr. Tekle-Yohannes is an accomplished researcher and presenter. He also serves as a clinical assistant professor of pediatrics at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine in Scranton.|He's an active member of several professional organizations and societies, including The American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Children’s Oncology Group, American Academy of Pediatrics and American Society of Hematology.
