Hiren Muzumdar, MD, is program director of the Pediatric Pulmonology Fellowship and of the Pediatric Sleep Evaluation Center and Ventilator Dependent Program at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. He is also an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He is board-certified in pediatric pulmonology and sleep medicine.Dr. Muzumdar earned his medical degree and bachelor's degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Bombay in Mumbai, India. He completed a residency in pediatrics and earned his post graduate degree in pediatrics at the Topiwala National Medical College, also in Mumbai, India. He completed pediatric residency and a fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at the State University of New York at Brooklyn.He was an assistant professor of pediatrics at the State University of New York, Brooklyn and subsequently at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY. He completed training in sleep medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and joined the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine as associate professor of pediatrics.Dr. Muzumdar is interested in obstructive sleep apnea in pediatric patients and his work has demonstrated the changes in autonomic function in children caused by sleep apnea. He is also interested in identification of obstructive sleep apnea in children with tracheostomies prior to decannulation of the tracheostomy. He was a member of the group that defined the effects of adenotonsillectomy in children with obstructive sleep apnea in a large multicenter study (the ChAt study).
