Dr. Ijeoma Ananaba Ekeruo received her Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Spelman College and her medical degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. She completed her internal medicine and pediatrics residency and fellowships in clinical cardiology, cardiac electrophysiology and advanced cardiac electrophysiology at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston, Texas. Board certified in internal medicine, pediatrics, cardiovascular disease, clinical cardiac electrophysiology and adult comprehensive echocardiography, Dr. Ekeruo specializes in adult congenital heart disease, cardiac electrophysiology and women’s health. Her research interests include arrhythmias in adult congenital heart disease and among minority populations, atrial fibrillation, conduction abnormalities in structural heart disease, and healthcare disparities and social determinants of health. As an assistant professor in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at McGovern Medical School, Dr. Ekeruo strives to provide excellent clinical care in all aspects of cardiac arrhythmia management. She is interested in house staff education and is actively involved with the Cardiac Electrophysiology Training Program. In addition, she has interests in international health and has volunteered in medical mission trips to West Africa. Dr. Ekeruo is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Heart Rhythm Society.
