Dr. Jay A. Met

Dr. Thomas Connor earned his bachelor's degree from Haverford College in Pennsylvania and his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. After completing a medical internship at Beth Israel Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, Dr. Connor returned to Baltimore to complete his ophthalmology residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute of the Johns Hopkins Hospital. He came to Milwaukee and the Medical College of Wisconsin for a fellowship in medical and surgical diseases of the retina and vitreous. Following completion of his fellowship, he returned to the Wilmer Eye Institute/Johns Hopkins Hospital to serve as assistant chief of service/director of ocular trauma service. He was pleased to return to the MCW Eye Institute and the Department of Ophthalmology in 1994 and has been here since, currently serving as professor of ophthalmology and director of the Vitreoretinal Fellowship Program. He enjoys his role in academic ophthalmology with a busy clinical and surgical practice while also serving as an educator — teaching medical students, residents, fellows, other physicians and the community at large. He is most pleased with his active research collaborations with his fellow colleagues on the retina service and the MCW Advanced Ocular Imaging Program (AOIP).Dr. Connor is a native of Baltimore, Maryland, but has transitioned well into a Packers, Brewers and Bucks fan. He and his wife, Sue, are community chorus singers, are active in scouting, have spent many seasons coaching youth sports, and they are the proud parents of triplets. Dr. Connor is highly rated in 35 conditions, according to our data. Laura Kopplin, MD, PhD, is a UW Health ophthalmologist who treats inflammatory eye conditions. Dr. Kopplin also is an associate professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.When meeting a patient for the first time, Dr. Kopplin works hard to put together the patient’s entire story. The first appointment is often several hours long. It includes a full eye exam, a review of past medical records and a discussion about the condition and treatment options to help the patient.Dr. Kopplin understands that serious eye conditions can cause fear and anxiety. She listens to her patients and helps them work through those feelings. She helps them understand what to expect with their treatments and future appointments.In addition to seeing patients, Dr. Kopplin's research includes new treatments for autoimmune eye diseases.Outside the clinic, Dr. Kopplin enjoys spending time with her daughter, reading science fiction books and traveling.My goal for my patients is to control their eye disease and preserve their vision. Kimberly Stepien, MD, is a UW Health ophthalmologist (eye specialist) with expertise in retinal diseases and disorders. She's also a professor in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.Dr. Stepien diagnoses and treats inherited retinal disease, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, blocked retinal blood vessels (retinal vascular occlusions) and other eye conditions. She directs a subspecialty clinic for patients with inherited retinal disease. These include retinitis pigmentosa (RP) and rare genetic disorders, such as Stargardt disease.Taking a personalized approach to care, Dr. Stepien treats patients with respect and compassion. She helps them understand their condition and treatment options, focusing on unique needs and preferences. Dr. Stepien empowers patients and their families to make health care decisions that work best for them.In addition to patient care, Dr. Stepien researches inherited retinal diseases and advanced imaging. She leads clinical trials to better understand and treat retinal diseases. Dr. Stepien co-directs the Wisconsin Advanced Imaging of the Visual System (WAIVS) lab.
