Dr. Jonathan B. Salinas
Overview
Dr. Jonathan Salinas was born in Lima, Peru. It was in Peru, where from an early age he began developing a deep appreciation for music and the singing voice from his mother, a professional singer. His comprehensive approach to the care of the professional voice is influenced by his personal experience as a musician and the unique experience of treating voice professionals at UCLA.Dr. Salinas is a Diplomate of the American Board of Otolaryngology. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a competitive degree in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology. He then obtained his medical degree from the world renowned David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. It was as a medical student at UCLA that he developed a close mentorship with world-class Laryngologists & Voice Specialists, Drs. Gerald Berke and Dinesh Chhetri. Thus, he remained in Los Angeles to complete his residency training in Otolaryngology at the prestigious Department of Head and Neck Surgery at the Ronald Reagan – UCLA Medical Center. He was then chosen to complete a Laryngology Fellowship at UCLA, where he further honed his skills in the comprehensive management of voice, airway and swallowing disorders, while concurrently holding positions of Clinical Instructor in Head and Neck Surgery at UCLA Medical Center and as an attending surgeon at Olive View – UCLA Medical Center.Dr. Salinas has been recognized for his achievements by the City of Los Angeles, the California State Senate, the California State Assembly, JPL-NASA, and the UCLA Latino Alumni Association. He is a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and the American Medical Association.Dr. Salinas is involved in a number of clinical and basic science research projects, including the study of in-vivo vocal fold replacement and laryngeal transplant. He is well published and has presented his discoveries to national and international audiences. Furthermore, because of his strong dedication to education, he continues teaching resident physicians and has been appointed Assistant Clinical Professor at UCLA.
