Dr. Lisa M. Gibbs

Dr. Lisa M. Gibbs is a board-certified UCI Health geriatrician who specializes in the care and treatment of older adults. Her clinical interests include healthy aging, chronic disease management, cognitive and overall health assessments for older adults.Gibbs, who holds the Ronald Reagan Endowed Chair of Geriatric Medicine, serves as chair of the UC Irvine School of Medicine Department of Family Medicine and chief of its Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology.She earned her medical degree at the Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, followed by a residency in family medicine at the UC Davis School of Medicine, where she also received fellowship training in geriatric medicine.Gibbs' research interests include elder abuse, advance care planning, dementia and improving physician training in geriatric medicine. She is widely published in peer-reviewed journals and is a frequent presenter and speaker at national conferences.She also has secured significant federal grant funding and support from major foundations for physician training and workforce training in geriatric medicine. She helped establish the California Academic Geriatrics Institutions (CAGI) with more than 25 organizations to advance research in geriatric medicine and improve clinical best care practices.As the longtime medical director of the UCI Health SeniorHealth Center, Gibbs helped establish a geriatric-focused Patient Centered Medical Home, enhanced specialty services in memory assessment, comprehensive health assessments and geriatric oncology. She also helped establish a program to support caregivers of patients with dementia through social work interns working with a community-based organization. Her efforts also led to the Institute for Healthcare Improvement recognizing UCI Health as a national model of systems-level age-friendly care, earning its Age-Friendly Health System designation. In addition, as the university's medical director for Population Health and Value-Based Care, she has been instrumental in establishing an infrastructure for value-based care, chronic disease management and the use of predictive analytics to improve quality of care. She also serves on the University of California Office of the President Population Health Steering Committee and its Center for Data-Driven Insights and Innovation Oversight Board.Gibbs, who also speaks Spanish, also maintains an active clinical practice at the UCI Health SeniorHealth Center in Orange.
