Dr. Matthew Niemeyer

Matthew Niemeyer, MD, is a UW Health interventional radiologist. He treats people with cancer and other conditions. He’s also an associate professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in the Department of Radiology.As an interventional radiologist, Dr. Niemeyer uses X-rays and other imaging tools to see inside the body, perform minimally invasive procedures and diagnose and treat diseases.One of Dr. Niemeyer’s special interests is helping people with liver cancer. Using high-tech tools, he can deliver radiation or chemotherapy particles right to the tumor. This minimizes side effects to the rest of the body. (Interventional radiologists who treat cancer, as Dr. Niemeyer does, are also called interventional oncologists.)When meeting a patient , Dr. Niemeyer listens to their concerns and creates treatment plans to address their unique needs. He works with other specialists to make sure people with complex diseases get the best care. He wants each patient to feel well-informed and leave his clinic with peace of mind.In addition, Dr. Niemeyer researches new techniques to improve cancer treatment.During his free time, Dr. Niemeyer enjoys family activities, hiking, biking, spending time outdoors and trying new restaurants.It’s exciting to use new techniques to treat people with cancer and other complex diseases.
