Dr. Michael S. Nosanov

Dana A. Telem, MD, MPH, is the Section Head of General Surgery, the Associate Chair for Quality and Patient Safety, and the Lazar J. Greenfield Professor of Surgery. Dr. Telem completed her surgical training at The Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York and her fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Telem also completed a Master’s in Public Health in the Executive Master’s of Healthcare Management program at the Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.She serves on the editorial boards of Annals of Surgery and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases, is a Subject Editor for Surgical Endoscopy and a Section Editor for Hernia. Her research and commentaries have been published in several prominent journals such as the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) and Annals of Surgery. Justin B. Dimick, M.D., M.P.H. is the Frederick A. Coller Distinguished Professor of Surgery and Chair of the Department of Surgery at the University of Michigan. Dr. Dimick is a graduate of Cornell University and Johns Hopkins Medical School. He completed his surgical training at the University of Michigan and a health services research fellowship at the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice. Dr. Dimick has served in several national leadership positions, including President of the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS), Chair of the Health Services Organization and Delivery (HSOD) Study Section at the NIH, Associate Editor at Annals of Surgery, and the Surgical Innovation Editor at JAMA Surgery. He has served as an advisor on quality and health policy for several organizations, including the BlueCross BlueShield Association (BCBSA), the American College of Surgeons-National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS-NSQIP), US News and World Reports Best Hospital Rankings, and the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC).Clinical Specialization:Dr. Dimick's clinical practice is primarily devoted to advanced laparoscopy, including treatment of morbid obesity, gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), paraesophageal hernias, abdominal wall hernias, and other benign and neoplastic diseases of the stomach, spleen, and foregut. He is the editor of the widely read surgical textbook, Clinical Scenarios in Surgery: Decision Making and Operative Technique, published by Lippincott (2018). Dr. Clifford S. Cho is the C. Gardner Child Professor of Surgery in the Division of Hepatopancreatobiliary and Advanced Gastrointestinal Surgery at Michigan Medicine.Dr. Cho is an Honors graduate of Brown University and AOA graduate of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. He completed his general surgery residency and transplantation immunology postdoctoral research fellowship at the University of Wisconsin, where he served as Chief Administrative Resident. He completed his surgical oncology fellowship at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, where he served as Chief Administrative Fellow. He joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health in 2006, where he was promoted to Associate Professor with Tenure and named the Ronald and Patricia Kissinger Professor of Surgical Oncology. He served as Chief of the Division of Surgical Oncology, Associate Residency Program Director, and co-Director of the Gastrointestinal Disease Oriented Team in the University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center before moving to the University of Michigan in 2016.Dr. Cho’s academic focus is on hepatopancreatobiliary and gastrointestinal malignancies, cancer immunology, and the mentorship of clinical and research trainees. He has lectured on these academic interests in over 15 national and international visiting professorships, and was named the James IV Traveler in 2014. He has published over 120 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters and currently serves on the editorial boards of Surgery and the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery. He is the Principal Investigator of a VA Merit Review-funded cancer immunology laboratory that is working to understand cancer-induced T cell suppression, and to identify novel T cell-based strategies for cancer immunotherapy. His laboratory has been continuously funded since 2006 by extramural support from the Veteran’s Administration, National Institutes of Health, American College of Surgeons, and Central Surgical Association, and is a member of the VA Oncology Merit Review study section. He has held a number of national academic leadership positions and is a member of over 15 surgical societies, including the American Surgical Association, Society of Clinical Surgery, Society of University Surgeons, and Surgical Biology Club II.
