Dr. Namrata Patil is a surgeon in the Division of Thoracic Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and director of Brigham and Women's Hospital's Thoracic Intermediate Care Unit. She is an assistant professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School.Dr. Patil received her medical degree from Government Medical School in India and completed a residency in otolaryngology at Government Medical College. She completed a residency in burns and plastic surgery at B.J. Wadia Hospital for Children, and a general surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Patil was a fellow in otolaryngology at the University of Wisconsin. She completed fellowships at BWH in surgical critical care; trauma, burns and critical care; and thoracic surgery.A graduate of Harvard Business School’s executive training program for health care professionals, Dr. Patil developed standards of care for hospitalized patients and leads a simulation training program at the Brigham that she established. Her research focuses on outcomes and systems to improve quality of care, delirium post-surgery, ICU communication, ethics and end-of-life care, and deep venous thrombosis.
