Overview
As a family medicine doctor, my practice is rooted in taking care of the family as a unit, so I love to take care of patients ages 0 – 100. Until recently, I also delivered babies and cared for prenatal patients, with the last child I delivered being my own. I trained at the University of Minnesota Duluth, where the program focused on taking care of families and the community as a whole. With further training in Seattle and a brief stint in Chicago, I have found myself working in diverse urban communities, but I’m happy to be back home in Minnesota with a little one of my own. There is not really any one type of patient I work with, but instead I try to seek additional training to be a “one-stop shop” for all my patients. I sought additional certification in HIV treatment. My past work has also involved treatment of hepatitis C, addiction and mental health. My residency location strived to be a leader in LGBTQIA education and care, and I continue to have that be a regular part of my practice. My approach to practice involves meeting patients where they’re at to understand their goals and ultimately cheer them on. I took one of preceptor’s pearls of wisdom and always ask my patients to “tell me more.” Staying curious helps with better communication and seeking answers.
