Amar A. Patel, MD is a board- certified orthopaedic surgeon specializing in treatment of the hand, wrist, and elbow. He completed his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Miami / Jackson Memorial Hospital, one of the busiest adult and pediatric trauma centers in the world. He subsequently completed his hand and upper extremity surgery fellowship at the world- renowned Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center. During his training, Dr. Patel authored numerous journal articles, scientific abstracts, and textbook chapters. He has presented his work at the national level and international levels and is actively involved in the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He has also provided orthopaedic care to local hospitals in Managua, Nicaragua.Dr. Patel’s practice includes all aspect of the hand, wrist, and elbow, and he treats both children and adults. He has specialized training in arthroscopy, microsurgery, nerve and tendon reconstruction, small joint replacement, sports injuries, wide- awake hand surgery, and work- related injuries. He serves on a Pompe disease advisory board for Amicus Therapeutics and Spark Therapeutics, as well as on the data safety monitoring board for Acceleron and Sarepta Therapeutics. He also is a reviewer with the Emerging Technologies and Training in Neurosciences (ETTN) group for the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
