
Overview
Dr. Patrick Lang is a hand surgeon who specializes in hand, wrist and forearm reconstruction. Providing nonsurgical as well as surgical care, he has a particular interest in managing hand and wrist fractures, nerve compression (such as in carpal tunnel syndrome) and Dupuytren's contracture (a genetic condition in which tightening tissues under the skin cause the fingers to bend toward the palm). Lang earned his medical degree with honors from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine. He completed a residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at UCSF, followed by a fellowship in orthopedic hand surgery at the Curtis National Hand Center. Lang and his wife started their residencies together at UCSF a few months after getting married in 2007. They now have three children, all of whom have expressed an interest in medicine. On weekends, he can be found riding his road bike in the East Bay hills. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and then completed his residency in the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Residency Program, which provides training at four major city hospitals. Next, he advanced his training in spine surgery as a clinical fellow at UCSF and in pediatric orthopedic surgery as chief resident at Boston Children's Hospital. Often invited to speak at national and international conferences, Berven has lectured on topics including measurement of outcomes in spine surgery, evaluation and management of spinal disorders, and advanced techniques in spinal surgery.
