Overview

I serve as the Vice-Chair for the Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of Michigan and the Division Chief of Children’s Emergency Medicine, CS Mott Children’s Hospital. I am a Professor Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI). I have substantial experience in securing external funding and conducting multi-center research as a steering committee member of the Pediatric Emergency Care Applied Research Network (PECARN). This network is designed to conduct high priority multi-institutional research on prevention and management of acute illnesses in children in need of emergency services, and is funded by the Emergency Medical Services for Children program and the Maternal and Child Health Bureau of the Health Resources and Services Administration. To date, my research has focused on key clinical concerns in pediatric emergency medicine such as infection/sepsis, quality metrics and patient safety in the pediatric ED. I have collaborated with investigators on novel diagnostic approaches to the identification of bacterial versus viral infections. I have a proven track record of peer-reviewed publications that reflect multi-center collaborations in areas of infection, patient safety and quality, and bringing research based knowledge to the bedside in an innovative fashion.
