Dr. Ran Zhang

Ran (Catherine) Zhang, MD, is a UW Health gynecologic oncologist and cancer surgeon. She’s also an assistant professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.Dr. Zhang diagnoses and treats patients with gynecologic cancers involving the uterus, cervix, ovary, fallopian tube, vulva, and vagina, as well as gestational trophoblastic disease—rare tumors that develop in the uterus during early pregnancy. She evaluates each patient’s condition through careful review of symptoms, laboratory studies, and imaging to guide individualized care.Dr. Zhang offers comprehensive treatment options and incorporates minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgical techniques when appropriate to support optimal outcomes and recovery.Taking a holistic approach, she takes time to get to know patients and their concerns, hopes, expectations and goals. She listens closely to patients and their supporters and guides patients through every step of their journey. In addition to caring for patients and teaching, Dr. Zhang conducts research focused on HPV-associated cancers and developing new methods for early detection and screening of gynecologic cancers.Outside of medicine, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and hiking.

Her clinical expertise encompasses Malignant Mixed Mullerian Tumor and Vulvar Cancer.
