Dr. Derek Purcell is a board-certified, fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine, with a concentration on conditions and injuries of the shoulder and knee.  His expertise is in advanced arthroscopic techniques for the shoulder and knee, complex knee ligament reconstruction, cartilage restoration, and joint replacement for the knee and shoulder. Dr. Purcell graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.  After attending the University of Virginia School of Medicine, he completed his Orthopedic Surgery residence as well as Sports Medicine and Shoulder Fellowship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Kobayashi was elected to serve on the Board of Specialties for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons as well as the Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons for education.  He has been the team physician for the Air Force Academy sports programs and is currently a consultant for the Olympic Training Center.
