
Overview
Dr. Robert Schergen is a fellowship-trained podiatric surgeon, and his expertise is in performing forefoot surgery, rear foot surgery, and total ankle replacement. Dr. Schergen also has extensive training in advanced limb salvage techniques including the application of multiplanar external fixation, skin grafts, skin flaps, and muscle flaps. Dr. Schergen works with his patients to reduce their foot and ankle pain, prevent amputations, and recover from injuries and treats a variety of podiatric concerns including bunion correction and hammertoes, foot and ankle trauma, sports medicine injuries, flat foot reconstruction, complex foot wounds, charcot reconstruction, and diabetic foot concerns. Dr. Schergen earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine at the Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery. He completed his surgical residency at SSM Health DePaul Health Center in St. Louis, MO. Dr. Schergen conducted a year fellowship in foot and ankle reconstruction and limb salvage through the Professional Education and Research Institute in Roanoke, VA. He also served a five-week fellowship in Germany to train with four renowned foot and ankle orthopedic surgeons. Dr. Schergen is an associate member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and was named SSM Health Southern Illinois Physician of the Year in 2021. He currently sees patients in Centralia, Salem, and Nashville.
