Dr. Sara C. Holz

Alaa Abd-Elsayed, MD, is a UW Health anesthesiologist and the medical director of the Pain Management Clinic. Dr. Abd-Elsayed treats patients with chronic pain in the back, neck, knees, shoulders, hips and other areas. He also uses neuromodulation, a therapeutic technique, to manage neuropathic pain in the nervous system. Dr. Abd-Elsayed is an associate professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin. He focuses his research on treating pain with interventional procedures, including electrical stimulation and sacroiliac joint function.Dr. Abd-Elsayed aims to help people get better through compassionate care. She provides long-term rehabilitation care for people with neurological injuries and developmental disorders.Dr. Caldera regularly works with adults who’ve experienced spinal cord and brain injuries and those who’ve had a stroke. She also works with patients who have multiple sclerosis (MS) and developmental disorders such as cerebral palsy and spina bifida. Her clinical interest is in neurologic rehabilitation for patients with amputations.Dr. Caldera helps patients regain their function and independence through therapy, procedures and medication. She uses a patient-centered approach to care, listening to her patients’ concerns and helping them develop functional goals. She then coordinates care with other UW Health specialists to achieve those goals.Dr. Caldera enjoys treating people with these complex disorders and helping them improve over time.Outside of work, Dr. Caldera enjoys playing tennis and pickleball, spending time with family and exploring Madison.One of the most rewarding parts of my job is developing close relationships with my patients and their families over time. He is also an associate professor in the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.Dr. Leonard’s specialties include neck and back pain management, as well as sports injuries and work-related injuries. He’s part of a team of orthopedic spine surgeons and other specialists who work in a dedicated spinal care clinic.Dr. Leonard manages injury-related pain, post-operative pain and chronic (ongoing) spinal pain. His patient-centered approach to care includes listening to patients’ concerns and treatment goals. He takes time to educate them about a variety of treatment approaches and options. He provides long-term follow-up care to evaluate progress. His goal is to help patients take a proactive role in their spinal health and pain management.Outside of work, he enjoys weightlifting, biking and spending warm summer days on the river or lake.I think the biggest thing we give our patients is hope.
