Dr. Pyper is currently an assistant professor at the University of Utah School of Medicine in the division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. He is a member of the Hematology team at the University of Utah and Primary Children's Hospital. He received his medical degree from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.Dr. Pyper completed his residency at the University of Vermont College of Medicine, University of Vermont Children's Hospital (Pediatrics). He completed his fellowship in Pediatric Hematology, Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplantation at the University of Minnesota Medical School, University of Minnesota Masonic Children's Hospital.Dr. Pyper is board-certified in Pediatrics and Pediatric Hematology and Oncology. He is a member of many professional societies, including The American Society of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, The American Society for Hematology and the American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy. He has many years teaching experience and has previously been awarded teacher of the year by the associated pediatric residency program. He also takes great interest in patient and family education to make sure that patients and families understand their medical issues in an age-appropriate way so that they are able to participate in decision-making and advocate well for themselves and their loved ones.Dr. Pyper's clinical interests include the treatment of pediatric disorders including non-malignant hematology, disorders of hemostasis and thrombosis, sickle cell disease, red cell membrane defects and hemoglobinopathies as well as bone marrow failure syndromes.His primary research interests include congenital and acquired risk factors for abnormal bleeding and clotting in pediatric patients as well as improving access to needed health care resources for high-risk pediatric patients affected by hematologic diseases.
