Dr. Thomas M. Michel is a cardiovascular medicine specialist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH). In addition, he is a professor of medicine (Biochemistry) at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and the associate director of the Harvard/Massachusetts Institute of Technology MD-PhD Program.After graduating from Harvard College, he received his MD and PhD degrees from Duke University School of Medicine. His laboratory has studied endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), a signaling enzyme involved in the control of vascular tone, myocardial contractibility and platelet aggregation. An active educator, he served as the dean for education at Harvard Medical School. For the past two decades, the National Institutes of Health has provided continuous funding for his research endeavors.
