Dr. Tovah Ellman

I was eager to work at an institution like Nemours for the opportunity to teach medical students and residents, our physicians of the future. I’ve wanted to be a doctor for as long as I can remember, and I always wanted to treat kids. Children are truly in the moment, even during an emergency. My job is to provide care and reduce their stress. Kids are fun, happy and resilient. They tend to respond well to treatment, which is very satisfying for their caregivers! I like that kids seldom hold a grudge. Even if I have to do a procedure or give them a shot, they’ll typically high-five me when it’s over. No one plans to visit the Emergency Department, so the idea of being there for children and families when they really need help is a big reason I enjoy coming to work each day. I would be happiest if my patients never got hurt or sick in the first place, which is why I try to encourage safety and prevention at each visit. I try hard to make stressful situations less scary for patients and families. Because children tend to play outside year-round here in Florida, we see a lot more injuries. My goal is to offer great care with a minimum of delay and drama.
